This year marks an important anniversary in the history of Egyptology. On November 4th, 2026, it will be 104 years since Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon discovered the intact tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922 - a discovery that continues to capture the public imagination.
Nearly a year after the complete collection went on display at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo on November 1, 2025, Sherine ElSebaie will take audiences back to the moment of its discovery. Following the footsteps of the excavators, she will recount the story leading to the discovery of the tomb and explore the remarkable objects found in its first two chambers during the initial excavation in 1922.
Sherine ElSebaie is an Egyptologist who began her academic journey with a B.Sc. in Egypt, completed a Master’s degree in Egyptology at the University of Toronto. She then engaged in advanced doctoral studies, further deepening her expertise in the field. She specializes in ancient Egyptian art and religion, with particular interests in the history of archeology, tourism, and cultural heritage.
