David Dawson unveils his first original creation for The National Ballet of Canada since being appointed Resident Choreographer by Artistic Director Hope Muir in 2025. Emotionally rich and technically demanding, The Beginning of Forever showcases the dancers at their most expressive, both physically and spiritually.
A trilogy of three new works: a resurgence, a revelation, a rebirth . The Beginning of Forever follows the huge success of both Anima Animus and The Four Seasons as David Dawson’s first commission for The National Ballet of Canada in his role as Resident Choreographer. The full evening work explores the elemental forces that shape us – life, love and ascension through the prism of movement, memory and meditation. Set to a new commissioned score by internationally renowned composer Peter Gregson and brought to life in a visually striking world designed by Eno Henze (set), Yumiko Takeshima (costumes) and Bert Dalhuysen (lighting), The Beginning of Forever is a choreographic odyssey through loss and longing, dissolution and return.
