Mindful Stitching with Christina Dashko
In this workshop we will focus on the process of stitching a small applique project, a piece that is 2” x 10 1/2 “ that you could finish as a bookmark or bracelet. I like to use natural fibres when possible; cotton or linen add to the tactile experience! Participants will be given a base fabric, colourful pieces of fabric, embroidery floss and notions. We will review some basic stitches that you could use to embellish the piece (running stitches, blanket stitch, satin stitch). As participants are working, we will speak about the benefits of mindful activity and the joy that creating something can offer.
All materials will be provided. However, if participants wish to bring their own needles and scissors and any scraps of cotton or linen, bits of ribbon or buttons for embelishments, you are welcome to!
When: Saturday, November 14, 10:30 am to 1:00 pm
Cost: $65 per participant (all supplies included)
Ages: 16+
I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. My family is originally from Ukraine and I am quite fascinated with Ukrainian folkore and culture. I love to incorporate folk symbols and motifs and transform them into modern day art. Some of the things I like to create include: embroidery, spinning on a drop spindle, painting and knitting. Working with my hands brings me a sense of wellbeing and a connection to those who have gone before me. I have 35 years of experience of working in the university setting and in healthcare, facilitating creative-based workshops. What I learned there was that everyone has the potential to create something, simply for the joy of creating.
