Ever wondered why some photos look perfectly exposed while others are too dark, too bright or blurry? Want to understand how your camera or smartphone can help you take photos with intention?
In this 3-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of exposure and how ISO, aperture and shutter speed work together to control the way your images look. Whether you’re shooting with a film camera, digital camera or smartphone, you’ll learn how to measure light and make intentional choices when taking photographs.
Working together, we’ll create a still life setup and experiment with a movable light source to explore different lighting conditions. You’ll practice adjusting your settings as the light changes, while learning how to create softer or more dramatic lighting and make thoughtful composition choices.
We’ll also look at different camera setups, including film, digital and smartphone photography, discussing the strengths, limitations and best uses of each. Throughout the workshop, you’ll receive guidance on exposure, composition and different approaches to creating images with intention.
Skills required: none! This workshop is designed for beginners and is open to anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of photography.
The price includes all necessary materials, equipment and lots of fun!
Note: Please bring your own camera setup to the workshop. Film cameras, digital cameras and smartphones are all welcome. You are also encouraged to bring a colourful object or two to contribute to our still life setup.
