This October, join tap dancer Elise McGrenera at The Jamii Hub for a tap dance workshop series guided by Jamii’s 2026 theme, It Feels Right. These sessions invite participants to explore rhythm, coordination, and musicality through tap, feeling the beat not only in the feet but throughout the whole body.
Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of tap dance through traditional steps, movement exercises, and creative exploration. The workshops focus on how rhythm connects us to ourselves and each other, offering a grounded and joyful way to move in a supportive group setting. Each session creates space for curiosity, play, and connection, whether you’re stepping into tap for the first time or returning with some experience.
No tap shoes? No problem. Participants are welcome to wear comfortable shoes or bring tap shoes if they have them.
Elise McGrenera is a tap dancer originally from Vancouver and currently based in Toronto. She is an alumna of the School at Jacob’s Pillow, where she completed the 2019 tap dance program and received the Professional Advancement in Dance Award. Elise has performed in works such as Danny Nielsen’s On Foot, including its 2019 Vancouver premiere and 2023 BC tour, and has been featured in productions of Jeffrey Dawson and Friends presented by the Vancouver Tap Dance Society. In 2022, she co-founded the tap dance collective Boys’ Club, which toured its first full-length work across Europe. Elise has an ongoing relationship with Jamii and previously facilitated Monday Dancing workshops during the March Cycle in 2025, led by Zarita Sharon Adhiambo.
This workshop is open to all movement levels and abilities. No previous tap experience is required.
A TEMPORARY CHANGE TO CYCLE THIS FALL
For the remainder of 2026, Cycle workshops will have a temporary participant fee so we can keep the program going through the end of the year.
If you are able, you can choose a Pay It Forward ticket and help make a workshop available to another neighbour. As Pay It Forward tickets are purchased, or registered participants release spots they can no longer use, Community Tickets may become available at no cost for anyone for whom the workshop fee is a barrier. No explanation is needed.
If you don’t see a Community Ticket available, please check back. New tickets may be released as we get closer to the workshop.
Cycle will return to free workshops in 2027.
Jamii’s Cycle Programs are sponsored by Canada Council for the Arts, Toronto Arts Council, TD Ready Commitment, Metcalf Foundation, Rama Gaming House, and Charitable Gaming.
