Join Hacer Atar Ozcan to learn Ebru art, also known as paper marbling, a traditional Turkish art form in which colourful patterns are created on the surface of water and then transferred onto paper. It is widely recognized as a decorative paper art. During the Ottoman period, Ebru was especially used in book decoration and as backgrounds for calligraphy. Today, it is practiced in both traditional and modern styles, keeping the art alive.
In this hands-on Ebru workshop, you will learn how natural dyes are sprinkled onto thickened water (prepared with a substance called kitre) and shaped using brushes and special tools. The resulting designs are carefully transferred onto paper. Each piece of Ebru art is unique and cannot be exactly replicated, which makes every work one of a kind.
Hacer Atar Ozcan is a well known Traditional Turkish Water Marbling EBRU Artist in Canada. Born in
Turkey, came to Canada in 1993 and finished most of her education in Toronto. She is a Biological
Technology and Pharmaceutical QC graduate and always found interest in Water Marbling Art EBRU.
Started taking Ebru lessons in 2006, since then she organized lessons, workshops, open exhibitions, and joined many festivals and organizations. Her aim is to introduce this ancient and unique art to all
Canadians.
