About the Exhibition
The Gardiner Museum, Black Artists’ Networks in Dialogue (BAND), and the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) present a landmark curatorial partnership exploring contemporary ceramic practices rooted in Caribbean histories, memory, and cultural transformation. After the Island: Caribbean Canadian Ceramics considers how artists of the Caribbean diaspora are embracing the medium of ceramics to explore themes of knowledge transfer and the liberatory potential of the clandestine. Through existing and new work by Caribbean Canadian artists PJ Anderson, Eddy Firmin, Manuel Mathieu, and Sharon Norwood, the exhibition approaches questions of identity, belonging, memory, and cultural continuity through the language of clay.
