What if your next roll of film didn’t have to make a trip to the lab? Want to learn how to develop your own black and white film right at home?
In this 4 hour hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of developing 35mm black and white film by hand. We’ll take you through the entire process, from loading your film in a dark bag to developing, fixing, drying and storing your negatives.
You’ll learn how to properly handle film, load a developing reel, work with photographic chemistry, follow development times and agitate your developing tank. We’ll also learn how to read your film’s data sheet to determine the optimal developing time for your specific film stock.
Once your film is developed and dried, you’ll learn how to cut and store your negatives in archival sleeves and discuss the next steps for printing your photographs, whether that’s in a darkroom or at home.
The workshop is designed to give you the skills and confidence to continue developing film on your own. You’ll also take home the remaining chemistry so you can continue developing film at home, following recommendations for reuse and storage.
Skills required: None! This workshop is beginner-friendly and designed as an introduction to black and white film developing that can be done at home with the right setup.
