TPL presents Afghan-Canadian writer Jamaluddin Aram in conversation with Dmitri Nasrallah at the North York Central Library's Concourse Event Space.
What does it mean to carry a homeland inside you after it has been lost, not once, but again and again? In his essay collection The Blood of Things, Aram turns his attention fully to Afghanistan, its beauty, its suffering, and its complexity. Spanning from the recent fall of Kabul to the early days of Islam, from the myth of the Order of Assassins to the persecution of the country's ethnic Hazara community, Aram weaves personal stories with sweeping historical and political inquiry.
Drawing on his own journey from Afghanistan to Toronto, and his work as associate producer of the Oscar-nominated film Buzkashi Boys, Aram brings a novelist's eye for character and an essayist's rigor to bear on questions of identity, belonging, and what remains possible even amid profound loss.
Join Jamaluddin Aram for an intimate evening of readings and conversation on exile, memory, and the enduring pull of home.
Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
