Fitting for the 75th anniversary season, Echoes of Stravinsky celebrates The National Ballet of Canada’s longstanding commitment to live music and the exceptional artistry of its musicians with a triple bill featuring Christopher Wheeldon’s Scènes de Ballet , George Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto and Medhi Walerski’s Chamber .
Stravinsky transformed the landscape of 20th-century classical music and set ballet on a new course for the modern era. His revolutionary compositions include iconic collaborations with Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, such as The Firebird and The Rite of Spring , and continue to inspire choreographers today. Echoes of Stravinsky brings together three works shaped by Stravinsky’s influence, highlighting the artistry of The National Ballet of Canada Orchestra under Music Director and Principal Conductor David Briskin, celebrating his 20th year with the company.
