Community mosaic production with Toronto mosaic artist Alex Ganassini Here is a chance to leave a lasting mark on Old Town Toronto.
This community mosaic project began over the summer through Jamii’s Belonging Older Adults Visual Arts workshops. Guided by Toronto mosaic artist Alex Ganassini, participants learned mosaic techniques, developed the artistic concept together, and began creating designs for the three stone tables outside 262 The Esplanade, in front of Berkeley Cafe.

The designs are complete and mosaic production is already underway. This September, the project opens to all ages, giving new participants the opportunity to contribute directly to a permanent public art installation in Old Town Toronto.
Across three free workshops, participants will work alongside Alex and community members to arrange and place mosaic pieces on the final artworks. No previous mosaic experience is needed, and all materials are provided.
Your contribution will become part of three mosaic-covered tables that will remain on The Esplanade for neighbours, visitors, and future generations to experience.
Registration is required for anyone joining the project for the first time. Participants who attended the July or August workshops through Belonging Older Adults do not need to register again.
Children under 12 must attend with a parent or caregiver.
Support free community arts
Jamii keeps workshops free so everyone can take part, without financial barriers. If you’re able, you can support our $15 for 15 Years campaign and help us reach $15,000 by December 15 for Jamii’s future programs at The Jamii Hub. Your donation moves the goal forward and is eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Donate here now.
The mosaic project began through Jamii’s Belonging Older Adults program, sponsored by the Government of Canada through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association.
