Throughout the month of September and October, the works of photographer Roshan Panjwani are on display at Deer Park branch.
Roshan Panjwani is a Toronto-based nature and wildlife photographer, originally from India. Living with a physical disability has meant approaching fieldwork differently and has reinforced the persistence the work demands. Over more than a decade he has photographed across a wide range of habitats: the tiger reserves of India, the Okavango Delta and salt pans of Botswana, the savannahs of East Africa, the Himalayan high desert of Ladakh, the rainforests of Costa Rica, the mountains and coast of Alaska and the Canadian Rockies, and the High Arctic fjords of Greenland and Svalbard. His photographs have appeared on the cover of Canadian Photography magazine, been featured by BBC Earth, and appear in Europe's Sea Mammals, published by Princeton University Press. Through his work he hopes to deepen appreciation and care for the planet's fragile ecosystems and the wildlife inhabiting them.
"I photograph nature and wildlife in some of the world's less-explored places — pristine habitats, distinctive species, and landscapes that can feel otherworldly. Much of my work entails long hours in the field, watching for the light to shift or for wildlife behaviour that makes the frame memorable."
